Four common mistakes of the China business-agency relationship:

1. Consulting with an agent who has an undisclosed (or falsely stated) financial interest with the factory.

2. Sourcing directly with suppliers via references or 3d party networks.

3. Losing Face. Any mistake in word or gesture by your firm can harm your relationship with the factory, sometimes as much as 2-5 years down the road. Most agents will not inform you when you make such mistakes, and the factory will regard you as a disfavored client.

4. Poor decisions / timing and inadequately using relationship and/or political leverage.
