We have had several customers contacting us recently, advising they have recieved a call from someone reporting to be from Microsoft or an Antivirus Software company.The caller will attempt to worry you be telling you your computer is infected with a virus or has a problem with the antivirus software. If they manage to gain your trust they will ask you to go through a short procedure which we believe will give the caller access to your computer whenever it is connected to the internet.One of our customers was called by a man claiming to be from Microsoft and followed this procedure, when they became concerned, they call a number for Microsoft that they found on their computer, The same person who had called them answered the phone, this shows they have access to your computer as they placed their own number on the machine. If you are concerned you have a virus or a problem with your security software, please call a local computer company who will look into the issue for you. Do not follow procedures on your computer from unsolicited callers, if there is a problem with your computer you would generally be the first to know.If this has happened to you and you have followed the procedure, We would advise you stop using your computer straight away, Call us or your trusted computer service company. The machine has probably been compromised and the safest option is to have all your documents removed from the computer, the hard disk drive wiped and your computers operating system re-installed.This is fairly serious, we do not wish to alarm you, but following this procedure could give the caller access to your computer, your files, documents and any internet banking details. It could also allow them to use your computer to access the internet and undertake illegal activities which will be traceable back to your machine.
