We have a wide range of designs from the contemporary, fish bowls with tulips or gerbera inside them to our popular vintage designs - flower and plant arrangements in vintage containers such as jugs and tea pots.

8-10 Church Street in Folkestone has been a florist shop for over 100 years and we hope to continue this amazing service for many years to come. Stem by Stem will soon be five! The shop itself is an interesting example of Victorian shop architecture and is set in the heart of the oldest part of Folkestone near the 13th century church of Saint Mary and St Eanswthye. Local legend has it the old garden at the rear of the shop formed part of the convent grounds founded by St Eanswythe in the ninth century.
The business is owned by Tanya Henton. Originally from Sussex, she settled in London and worked as a stockbroker before retraining in the more creative career of floristry! She set up a wedding flower business and taught floristry for a number of years before moving to Kent and buying Chittendens the florist in Folkestone.
Our aim is to be an environmentally friendly business, so we source local and UK grown flowers and plants where possible, we stock fairtrade flowers and locally produced gifts. We can even offer biodegradable gift wrapping! Finally we recycle all of our waste so we limit our carbon footprint.
